Flutamide – Flutamidum – application and action

Intended use:

Treatment of prostate cancer when radical surgery or radiation therapy cannot be used. It is used in patients who have not previously been treated with hormones but have responded poorly to hormone treatment or have stopped responding.

Dosage:

Orally. The dose and frequency of taking the drug is determined by the doctor. Attention! In some patients the urine may turn orange to yellowish green during treatment. The preparation is intended only for men. For the treatment to be effective and as safe as possible, follow the instructions of your doctor. Familiarize yourself with the properties of the drug described in the leaflet before using it. Before using the drug, check the expiry date stated on the package (label). Do not use this medicine after the expiry date. Store the drug in a tightly closed container, out of the reach and sight of children, in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements. This medicine has been prescribed by your doctor to treat a specific medical condition.

Inform the doctor:

If you are hypersensitive to flutamide or any of the excipients of the preparation, cardiovascular diseases, liver function disorders, prone to blood clots. When you are taking the anticoagulant medication, theophylline. In addition, inform your doctor about all recently taken medications, even those available without a prescription.    

Side effects:

Breast hypertrophy, nipple pain, galactorrhea. These symptoms disappear when the drug is discontinued or the dose is reduced. Circulatory and heart disorders, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, appetite disorders, sometimes insomnia, fatigue, dizziness and headache, hot flushes, anxiety, itching of the skin, lymphoedema, abnormal liver function. The occurrence of side effects after the use of the drug, such as drowsiness, disorientation, weariness, dizziness, visual disturbances, poses a risk of driving vehicles and operating machinery.
